On Robin Williams and PZ Myers. Until now I have refrained from writing about the loss of a man I barely knew, yet I felt the twinges of sadness. But I was shocked to read PZ Myers cold writing on his death. A cruel way of demeaning his character and ours for daring to care for feeling the loss of a man we can hardly say we knew. In contrast, his family is happy to share their love and insight to the man they loved and knew. A man that acquired the affection of millions of people, simply by being himself. I myself have countless memories of happiness, brought on by him, when perhaps I was enveloped by my own sadness. His sincerity, kindness and humor gave him a way to reach into the loneliest minds and shine his light. Having suffered from depression and having lost my mother to the disease. Ive had to come to terms with its ruthless destruction of joy, beauty, awe and love in its victims. Until one has woken up holding the world in your hand but incapable of finding the tiniest glimmer of appreciation within oneself, one cant understand the lack of choice. The feelings of shame that come along with the knowledge you should feel better, should be able to appreciate the world around you, but you cant, no matter how hard you try. Until one has seen someones light dwindle, slowly disappearing behind dulling eyes, helpless to stop it, one can not understand, that the loss of the people you love, stems not from how or why they died. But from how they lived, what was shared, love, laughter and tears alike. A man like PZ Myers doesnt stand a chance of appreciating the great achievements of a man like Robin Williams. A man, that while he suffered, gave everything he could to lighten the load for others. To bring them joy. What a legacy! And yours, PZ? What will your legacy be? Negative & self righteous rants that most of the world would prefer to ignore.
