On Saturday 10 January 2015 at 1313 Hours, Delaware Township Fire Box 4716 Level 3 was struck for a reported residential structure fire on State Highway 12 in Delaware Township. Heavy Rescue 495 was assigned on the 1st alarm and responded with a crew of six rescue firefighters. Kingwood Township (16), Sergeantsville (47), Quakertown (91) and Raritan Township (21) fire companies were all due on the 1st alarm assignment. Multiple calls were reporting a working fire and at least one report indicated a subject being assisted from the home. EMS in this section of Delaware Township is normally provided by the Kingwood Rescue Squad (16), but since they were on dual alert status, Hunterdon County Communications immediately assigned our Squad for BLS as well since we are second due for this area. The Squad responded with BLS Ambulances 4951, 4953, 4955 and Technical Rescue 495 in addition to the Heavy Rescue. Kingwood Rescue responded two BLS ambulances, and the Lambertville - New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad was requested for their Rehab 175 due to the working fire and cold weather (16 degrees with a wind chill). Chief 47 Powell arrived on location, confirmed a working fire, and shortly thereafter requested a 2nd Alarm. The fire was located in a wood frame single story home, down a common driveway and behind another home. There were exposure problems in the form of other structures along with propane cylinders against the Bravo side of the home. There are no hydrants in the area and water supply relies on tenders (tankers). Heavy Rescue 495 arrived a few minutes later. Rescue Officer Deputy Chief Hoffman was assigned as the water supply officer while the balance of the crew assisted as directed by Command, throwing ladders and overhauling as the operation progressed. Luckily the fire was brought under control quickly. Squad EMTs under the direction of Squad Chief Giuliani assisted Kingwood and Lambertville EMS personnel with rehab operations. One firefighter was transported to HMC for a medical evaluation following rehab. A dog removed from the residence by firefighters had suffered burns and respiratory injuries and was transported by Kingwood ambulance to a burn specialty veterinarian clinic in Clinton Township for care. Personnel continued to assist as needed until released by command. Squad resources were back in service by about 1530 Hours. (Additional Photos in Photo Album)
