On Saturday 12th October, in game # 21 of the Fast Cash, Ayoub Morancie & Ronald Charles Trafalgar Basketball league, the Morne Prosper Lightning Strikerz defeated the Domlec Shockerz by 3pts the final score of 69pts – 66pts at the end of overtime, after the game was tied at 57pts at the end of regular time. The Strikerz, being the only team without a win, were finally looking to get on board with a victory and avoid going 0-4. The Shockerz themselves were in a slump, which is really surprising and with the team they possess they had lost 2 in a row. It was the 4th consecutive night of being extremely cold, wet and windy, but none the less, this is Trafalgar, and only volcanoes erupting could prevent games from playing. But believe me; the cold weather significantly impacts the game. Let no one fool you!! A poor, lifeless and disappointing 1st opening quarter told the true story. Only 14pts combined was produced. 8pts from the Shockerz and 6pts from the Strickerz. With a much improved performance from both teams in the 2nd period, the game was very much balanced on both ends of the floor. Thought it was still a low scoring half, 18pts from each team saw the Shockerz minimally in front by 2pts at the closing of the half. 28pts – 26pts. Plaudits to Marcel Nicholas who very dominant on the boards and unstoppable. Seriouslyyyy. At the half, he already had 11rebs, to go along with his 11pts. Exactly why he is the leading rebounder in all games played thus far. With the 3rd period commencing, the Lightning Strickerz were cold. Only Ursan Mitchel and Emile “Milk” Cadeau were able to get 5pts each as the team scored 12pts, while allowing the Shockerz to obtain 22pts. Judah Alexander finally started to come out of his shell. Just looking at his posture, it is visible that he’s an excellent player, but the sad part is, he has nothing of value in terms of points and rebounds to show for his talent. He did contribute 7pts in this quarter, but that was about it from him. The game was blown open with the Shockerz now leading by 11pts. 46pts – 35pts. They were looking great, and seemed to be on par, for a much needed victory. The 4th and final quarter on the way, and the Shockerz were taking it easy and controlling the tempo of the game. But this was thrown out the window, with the Strickerz staging a fight back in the closing 5 minutes. The panic alarm was sounded on the Domlec bench as the game was slowly going away from them. Emile “Milk” Cadeau, along with Lindel “Honey” Mayers and Earl “Ninja” George were the main threats. They provided 19pts in the quarter from the teams 22pts. With seconds to go and the game tied at 55pts, Jenner “Stunna” Deschamps was home alone with a whole half of the court, a ball in his hand, and a rim. All he had to do was put the ball in the hole, unfortunately, he could not find the hole, and missed the easy bucket to win the game. But guess what? Not everyone is that good at finding the hole. It’s a difficult job. The crowd went mad. The Shockerz recovered and Judah Alexander put them up by 1 point, after scoring the 2nd free throw. Again, it was start man for the night for the Lightning Strickerz “Emile “Milk” Cadeau who was not going to be denied and with a wonderful jump shot with about 7 seconds to go put the boys from the farming village back up by 1pt. But sadly, the Strickerz fouled the other danger man on the opposing team, Marcel Nicholas and put him on the line. He sank 1 free throw, tied the game at 57pts and sent it into overtime. The game was tied 4 times. In the overtime period Nicholas, who was mad and steaming at the final whistle continued to work tirelessly like donkeys do, but to no avail. With seconds to go and down by 3 pts the Shockerz felt that a vital call went against them after an apparent kick ball by one of the Strickerz players. The referees stopped the game to convene a discussion to ensure that no irrational call was being made. It was noted that the Strikerz had gathered the ball. They took over and ended up winning by 3pts. 69pts – 66pts. To date this is the only game that has gone into overtime. Certainly a great game with which the Lightning Strickerz fans were well pleased with, while the Shockerz were still wondering how they let the game slip away from them. The Strickerz obtained their 1st win of the season while the Shockerz have lost 3 in a row. Final score – Strickerz 69ps, Shockers 66pts Morne Prosper Lightning Strikers – Emile Cadeau – 22pts, 4rebs Ninja George – 11pts, 2rebs, 2asts Lindel Mayers – 16pts, 5rebs Ursan Mitchel – 11pts, 2rebs, 2asts Domlec Shockerz – Marcel Nicholas – 23pts, 16rebs Nigel Hilaire – 10pts, 2rebs Judah Alexander – 8pts, 4rebs, 2asts Andre Cadette – 13pts, 4rebs, 3asts
