On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th April 2014. The Clonmel Open Weightlifting Competition took place at Phoenix Strength and Conditioning, Clonmel. This competition recieved the more entries than any other weightlifting competition in Irish history. The last competition to take place in Clonmel prior to this was in 1963 when the town was a stronghold of the sport and the homeplace of Irish Olympian Frank Rothwell The photos in this album show the completed groups with attemps, results and scores. All lifters weightclasses and totals may be found in these photos as well as Sinclair scores, if you discover any error or issue requiring attention with these results please message us privately through our Facebook page or email pr@weightliftingireland Special congratulations to the best male and female lifters of this competition, Cathal Byrd and Amy Laffan who both gave fine displays of strength, speed and skill and wowed the crowds. Food and drink: Una Houlihan and her daughters from Paleo Crunch For taking the time to travel to our storage facility and to ECBWC to disassemble and load to a van, platforms and other equipment before and after the competition: Ed Flood, Si Keartland, Rebecca Lotti, Eamonn Deegan, Simon C Hancock, Cathal Fleming and Rory For putting the venue together into the late hours the night before and staying to clean and re-load the van afterwards: Patrick Coady, Dan Connolly, Mary McGrath Paul Deady, Paul Whelan, Wesley Crowe, Barry Cronin, Conor White, Gary Gunne, Shane Griffin and more besides whose names I dont even know. For giving up their training facility for two whole days, all the members of Phoenix Strength and Conditioning. For supplying a quality venue and working tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly through the two days: Mary McGrath, Patrick Coady and Dan Connolly. To anyone else who assisted in any way, apologies for leaving you out and thank you for your help. I have never seen a weightlifting competition with as positive and vibrant an atmosphere as this and I hope we have many more like it.
