On Saturday 29th November, Club Members will celebrate this year’s achievements at the annual trophy presentation and it is amazing how much goes on and how quickly 20 years has gone by!! The season started with Phil Moores winning the Winter Champions competition – Thrings Trophy and then The Rum Flan trophy that this year was won by “Wayne’s World”. 2014 Captain’s Julian Redpath and Pearl Penny celebrated the starts of their years as Captains by driving a ball across the 18th lake at the Club’s Easter celebration “ Chicken Run – a fancy dress team competition. We joined forces with The Frome Rifle Shooting Club and The Frome Archery Club and arranged a very successful “Have a go Day” on the range in May. Captain’s Day came next in early June, this shotgun start competition was won by the Club’s very first official club member Terry Miller and the Ladies cup was won by Josie McCulloch. This fun event raised nearly £1000 for this year’s Charity fund. Two weeks later saw Ian Jones win the Men’s Open stableford competition, Josie McCulloch take her second trophy of the year by winning the Ladies’ competition and William O’Halloran from Millfield School take the Junior Title. The Senior JETS trophy took place in excellent weather and Jim Edwards presented his trophy to the winners Rodney Cook, Alistair Wood and Peter Gillam. The Husband and Wife partnership of Jackie and Dave Cooper won The Wheeler Shield, a mixed foursomes competition in July. The Burns Bowl this year was won by a partnership made up of Derek Walford and Wayne Srawley. The Club Championships in August proved to be a very family affair with Wayne Srawley winning the Austin Cup after two days of competition for the Gross title and his father, Malcolm Srawley winning the Senior Club championship. Debbie Mullins won the Ladies Gross title and her son Bradley took the Junior Nett trophy. Shaun Anders won the 2014 Junior Championship with the best gross score. Last year’s Captains Andy Martin and Josie McCulloch handed over a cheque for £5000.00 to the local branch of the Guide dogs for the blind and Rob Morris’ Junior Academy chose the new puppy’s name – “Fairway”. We look forward to hearing about his progress in the future. Not only have the Club members enjoyed many home successes but three of our members – Mike Salmon, Andy Martin and Wayne Srawley qualified to compete in the National finals of the NAPGC UK Public Course Championships on the Eden Course at St Andrews. AND Wayne brought home the Gross Champion’s Trophy. James Rutt had County success at Wells Golf Club when he won the Category 2 Gross Champions Title. Phil Parker from Enmore Park Golf Club took home the Senior Open trophy and our own Pearl Penny won the Ladies Senior Open salver. Ross Daniell taking the best over 80 prize. This year’s brilliant Captain’s Charity Day was organised by Julian Redpath, & Pearl Penny, with a little bit of help from next year’s Club Captain Ryan Sainsbury. It was held on the 13th September. The team event was won by “A swing and a prayer” (Stephen McCaw, John Standing, Gary Butler, & Dave Cooper). The Charity Day Cadets Trophy was won by 7 year old Matthew Green. We would once again like to take the opportunity to thank our many sponsors some of whom include The Cornerhouse in Frome, Schneider Electric and main sponsor this year Framptons Ltd. The ever popular John Scott trophy – a competition where to have qualified seems to be a badge of honour!! Was won this year by Paul Woodward and the senior version – The Mike Curtis Trophy was won by Rob Richardson. October saw £151.00 raised by the club for the Royal British Legion with a “Poppy” Medal. Throughout the summer the course has seen many team and individual battles. Some friendly and some very serious! But all ending in the 19th with great camaraderie!
