On Saturday, December 13, from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Southern Junkers will host their first-ever Pop-Up Holiday Market at ArkWings, the historic home of Judge McCall, at 2034 James Road in Memphis. Admission for shoppers is $5. This one-of-a-kind market will feature vintage gifts, art, handmade items, soaps, candles, jewelry, and more. The most unique aspect of this show and sale is that many of the items are created from repurposed materials, lovingly hand-crafted to give them new function and beauty. Southern Junkers is a group of inspired, creative, environmentally-minded artisans who believe that there is no such thing as “trash,” but that discarded items can be salvaged, reinvented, and given new life. Their distinctive creations often call up nostalgic memories and keep seemingly worthless items from ending up in the landfill. Southern Junkers chose ArkWings as a destination for their holiday pop-up because of its idyllic setting, convenient location, and little-known history. Dr. John W. McCall, Ph.D., grandson of the home’s original owner, operates the landmark, and the ArkWings Foundation. ArkWings Foundation is a multi-ministry wellness organization, with a mission to promote spiritual, emotional, and physical health for individuals, organizations, and communities through innovative, hands-on programs, with a focus on inner-city youth. The ArkWings motto is “Taking Care of Self in order to Care for Others” (God, Neighbor, Self.) Hosting this event at ArkWings will support this non-profit foundation in their work, as well as bringing exposure to one of Memphis’ hidden treasures.
