On Saturday, November 23rd, the Lions Football Team, in conjunction with the Conroy Family, will be hosting the 3rd Annual Coach Frank Conroy Pay It Forward Memorial Benefit at the Oaks Ballroom in Glenolden from 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with entertainment by The B Street Band (a Bruce Springsteen Tribute Band). Tickets to the event include Buffet, Open Bar (Beer and Wine), Great Music and Fun! This is our football programs big fall fundraiser, with proceeds from this event benefiting our Lions Football Team!!! Not only do proceeds from this event help support our Football Program, but scholarship awards are presented annually, in Frank Conroys name, to both an OHara Freshman and Varsity football player who emulate Franks life and his playing career. As we get ready to celebrate OHaras Homecoming this weekend, it is important to remember and appreciate who Frank Conroy was and why he is so important to our Program: At the age of 46, Frank Conroy was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Myxoid Lipo Sarcoma. Frank fought the disease tirelessly for six years, including undergoing multiple surgeries, three different types of chemotherapy, and radiation. No one fought harder to stay alive than he did. He never gave up, but surrendered to God’s will on August 26, 2010, leaving behind his wife, Jeannie, of 33 years, three children and a grandson, as well as his parents and siblings. Coach Frank Conroy played CYO Football at St. Kevins and then was a 4-year player on the Lions Football Team, including being a member of the 1973 Catholic League Championship Team, which we will honor at this weekends OHara Homecoming Game (Saturday, Oct. 26th at 2:00 PM vs. Lansdale Catholic at Lions Stadium) for the 40th Anniversary of their PCL Championship win. Frank gave a lot of his time over the last 20 years of his life as a football coach for Holy Cross CYO and OHaras Freshmen Team. Also, Frank had a son, Frank Jr., who played on the Lions Football Team, so he was a proud parent, too, who supported his son. Additionally, his wife, Jeanne, spearheaded the Lions Football Program Ad Book, worked in the Snack Bar, cooked meals for the Senior Dinner, etc. Jeanne and her family continue to be passionate about OHara Football in Franks honor through the annual Coach Frank Conroy Pay It Forward Memorial Benefit.
