On Saturday October 4th, the Ryan Cusack Memorial Tournament was held in Harty Park Murroe before a big attendance in showery conditions. The tournament was held for u11 hurlers and consisted of our own Murroe Boher team and visiting teams Ahane, Ballina and Bruff. The games were run off on a round robin basis with the top two teams qualifying for the cup final and the 3rd and 4th place teams qualifying for the plate final. Our lads played Bruff in their first game and got off to a very slow start and conceded some soft goals which would come back to haunt them later in the tournament. In the second game the real qualities of our u11s came to the fore when they really put on the style against Ahane and came out with a resounding victory to put themselves back in the frame for a top two two finish and thus qualify for the cup final. In the third round robin game our lads needed a victory against Ballina who were a very strong outfit and being two points down at half time and facing a strong breeze in the second half, things were not looking promising but the lads fought hard against the elements and pulled out a great victory with two goals that pleased the big home crowd. Once the round robin games were complete, the results were calculated and with ourselves, Ballina and Bruff tied with two wins each, it came down to scoring difference. The first game in the tournament in which the boys were not up to speed cost them in the end with Ballina and Bruff going into the cup final with ourselves and Ahane contesting the plate final. Bruff and Ballina played a great cup final with the final scoreline of Bruff 4-7 to Ballina 1-3 not a true reflection of how competitive it was while the plate final between ourselves and Ahane turned out to be a little one sided with a final score of Murroe Boher 7-2 to Ahane 1-0, the Ahane boys couldnt be faulted for effort but our lads were outstanding on this occasion. Huge thanks must go to Vincent and Martina Cusack and their Family for allowing the club to honour the memory of their son Ryan and for their attendance on the day to do the presentations to the winning captains. Thanks must also go the visiting teams , Seamus Cusack of Dovetail Fitted Furniture who sponsored the wonderful cup that was presented on the day and Conor Byrnes,Dave Holmes and Mike Hickey who refereed the games on the day Results : R1- Murroe Boher 3-0 Bruff 8-1 Ahane 1-1 Ballina 3-4 R2- Murroe Boher 5-2 Ahane 1-0 Bruff 2-0 Ballina 2-1 R3 -Murroe Boher 3-0 Ballina 1-4 Ahane 0-1 Bruff 5-3 Cup Final - Bruff 4-7 Ballina 1-3 Plate Final - Murroe Boher 7-2 Ahane 1-0 Murroe Boher Panel : Mark Nicolas, Alex Considine, Stephen Moore, Cillian O Shea, Thomas Barry, Jack Oliver, Mikie Kelly, Jack O Sullivan, Colin Hackett, Ciaran Fitzgerald, Liam Quaid, Killian Quaid, Brian O Keeffe, Euan Sheridan, Johnny Fitzgerald, Rory Kelly, Jack Fitzgerald, Michael Herbert, John Ryan.
