On Saturday at Rowland Reserve off lead dog park in Bayview, a 4 month old Chihuahua x puppy was attacked and killed by a Bull Terrier. The puppy was taken straight to the vet but did not survive. My heart breaks for all families involved in this dreadful incident. I have people come through my classes who do not agree with my idea of dog parks. I personally do not like them as I usually end up with someone elses dog being ill mannered and that person being equally so. I find them, for the most part to be a cheap way of exercising your dog. If you take your dog to off lead dog parks please ensure you have a 110% recall and complete control of your dog. If you have any doubts, use a 10 meter long line to control the situation. In a dog park situation, it is very heightened behaviour. Some dogs lose focus, particularly in peak times For others, this constant hyped type of play is all they know. Please do not let this become a forum for argument and nastiness. I know several amazing dogs who frequent dog parks. These dogs have wonderful manners because their owners have a great training base and great command over their dogs. Lets educate and create awareness about the importance of training!
