On Saturday, in the Freehold Mall, while waiting for their majesties to finish shopping I wandered into the lair of a self proclaimed apologist and his sheeple. I stopped to listen to their spiel. Seeing that I was unmoved one of them asked me Dont you think you need God? I asked Why she responded Well dont you ever get stressed and feel despair? I said These are very human states of mind and they are universal, but they present an opportunity to evaluate your life and make necessary adjustments, so whats your point? She said So you dont believe God would help you? I said You are acting like you are talking about someone we both know exists, I have no more reason to believe in your god than I do the Easter bunny, perhaps even less She said but the Easter bunny doesnt help you does he? I said Sure he does! Dont you like chocolate?? In fact, getting back to the topic of despair, doesnt chocolate make YOU feel better? At least the Easter bunny brings chocolate! At that point the apologist (the pastor ) came over to help out and when he saw that I was a bit of a handful he tried to get theological -- and we went at it: theology, christology eschatology, hermeneutics, church councils, apostolic and ante-nicene fathers ... then I decided to have a little fun and asked him to explain specific contradictions in the bible. He resorted to ad hominem tactics implying that I was hurt somehow. I decided to have a little more fun and I offered to show him every thing that caused a crack in my previous faith perspective. He took my email address. Im waiting dear little pastor!
