On Saturday the 20th of September i will be joining my friends on a journey to Apagya for a noble cause. We are walking the talk and helping in our own small way. ***Apagya R/C Primary School is a basic school in the Adansi South district of Ashanti region serving about 5 communities within its catchment area. The school is made up of a decent six (6) unit classroom block plus a headmaster’s office. A recent rainstorm caused severe damages to the school block. The issues at hand are bulleted below: • The damage/complete lifting off of the roof for three of the classrooms and the headmaster’s office. • The other three classrooms have leakages in several areas which affects learning activities in the event of a rainfall; • The intention to paint building to improve its aesthetic appearance once the roof works has been done. There is also the issue of erosion affecting the foundation/concrete apron which needs to be resolved. On some sections of the concrete apron, the erosion has almost washed away the concrete apron thereby posing danger to the walls of the building whilst on other sections the erosion has just started. Resolving the issues surrounding the foundation will ensure a complete failure (and possible injury) of the classroom walls is prevented in the next few years. Some friends and I are raising funds to repair the roof, paint the school and resolve the issues around the foundation. Please be rest assured that any assistance received from you will be accounted for and used diligently for the purpose of the project. To ensure transparency, we are happy to let you see the final accounts for the project (ie sources and uses of funds). We are also willing to help you get direct access to the Headmaster of the school regarding this noble undertaking. Please find attached pictures of the school building and the progress we have made so far. We still have 40% of the roofing to complete and are working to get more sheets to progress this weekend. We want to do the painting as a team of volunteers together. The painting of the Apagya RC Primary School is on Saturday Sept 20, 2014. 21st Sept is Founders Day and waa also declared by the GhanaThink Foundation last year as the National Volunteers’ Day. Monday Sept 22 is a holiday so volunteers can have a day to rest after. What we need: 1. Painters: Every volunteer will help with the painting. It will be great fun. 2. Paints: We are still accepting paint donations and cash donation to buy more paint. 3. Paint brushes and rollers: Special appeal to those who recently moved or have painted their houses. If you have some at home, please loan it to us for use. If you know a painter, ask him for his tools on loan. We return them to the owners upon return. You can also buy and donate to the activity. 4. Turpentine: For washing away paints from our bodies after painting. 5. Buckets: At least two for mixing paints. 6. Drinks and Water: We are accepting drink and water donations. 7: Food We encourage volunteers to sign up by Friday so we use that to plan adequately. If you are close to Apagya, we hope to see you there. I will confirm the time of start by tomorrow. RSVP: Farhan Seyram Freddy , Ama Ahiable, Nana Boateng, Kasaprenu Nana-Kwasi Awere-Krumah Damoah For more information you can visit this website for details.
