On Sept. 1, 1939 World War 2 officially started with Germanys invasion of Poland. The winds of war had been howling for over 4 years in Europe but countries like Britain and France kept appeasing Hitler and allowed him to gain the power and strength that he commanded. My dad was a young man of only 16 when that War started, he was a seasoned veteran of 22 when it ended. While it was a couple more years before Pearl Harbor launched the events which flung America full force into the war, this nation was already sending supplies and manpower to Europe. Most young people today know nothing of this part of our history. Many do not even care, but as long as Bud Gore lives I will chose to remind people that it was HIS generation that made America Great. There is a little over 1 million WW2 Vets left in this nation (out of almost 16 million that served) and my family is blessed to have one of those who served, sacrificed and survived.
