On Sunday, Community Animal Rescue Effort honored the Strut For Strays fundraising efforts of eight-year-old Josie Johnson, whose donations reached $715. That figure was 357% higher than Josie’s initial goal of raising $200 for C.A.R.E.’s animal rescue to mark her eighth birthday. In all, the Strut, which took place May 10, brought in $23,250 thanks to the efforts of some 119 attendees and their dogs. To mark Josie’s accomplishment, C.A.R.E. supporter The Pony Shop, an Evanston-based cycling shop, presented the girl with a new bicycle. “One of the best things that happened to me last year was adopting my dog, Winston,” Josie wrote on her FirstGiving fundraising webpage. “For my birthday, Winston and I want to raise money for fellow dog friends to have a new home and better future. Dogs are living creatures too, and they need good lives. We are raising money to make sure they can have that.” C.A.R.E. President Linda Gelb applauds Josie accomplishment on behalf of the organization’s volunteers. “Josie went above and beyond in her efforts to help animals,” Gelb says. “We thank her for outreach and passion, and look forward to welcoming her as a C.A.R.E. volunteer when she gets a little older.” Josie was the top non-C.A.R.E.-board fundraiser. Way to GO, Josie! Thanks for all you do for C.A.R.E. critters. And thank you, Pony Shop! You made a young girl very happy with that gorgeous purple bicycle.
