On Sunday, June 15 (Fathers Day), we investigated two sad cases: At about 2 p.m., the body of an 11-year-old girl was found in the Wicomico River (Charles County side) in the 17400 block of Rock Point Road in Newburg. The girl had been reported missing from Saint Marys County on Friday where she apparently drowned after being caught in a strong current. Then, at 4 p.m., a 1-year-old boy was struck by a car on a private roadway on Lyles Place in Waldorf. Family members transported the child to a nearby fire station where paramedics valiantly tried to save him. The child was transported to a hospital where life saving measures continued but he succumbed to his injuries later. We will have additional information tomorrow. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the victims.
