On Sunday, October 13, Pope Francis will consecrate the world to Our Lady of Fatima. Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to Fatima in 2010 said: It is a profound consolation to know that you are crowned not only with the silver and gold of our joys and hopes, but also with the bullet of our anxieties and sufferings, referencing the bullet placed by Bl. Pope John Paul II in the crown of the statue after his assasination attempt. Many know about the apparitions and miracles at Fatima, but the message is more than prophesy; Those who expected exciting apocalyptic revelations about the end of the world or the future course of history are bound to be disappointed. Fatima does not satisfy our curiosity in this way, just as Christian faith in general cannot be reduced to an object of mere curiosity.
