On Sunday, the Tulsa World published an OpEd by AFP Oklahoma Director John Tidwell exploring education options for every student in the Sooner State. What do you think are the best options for Oklahoma education? What is working for you and your families? Oklahomans must engage on this issue. Too often in education, charter schools for example, rural education administrators are far too concerned with their own piece of the pie, rather than the greater good of Oklahoma education. I’m going to let you in on a little secret: Competition is good. Competition makes you a better person, it makes your school stronger, it makes you put in a little extra effort to outshine both your colleagues and your foes. But why isn’t that attitude shared by more people? How have we become a society based on giving everyone a trophy for participation? How is that helping our kids to succeed? The simple answer: It’s not.
