On This Day In Herstory. On December 23, 1941, it is time for radio listeners to tune in to the popular weekly variety show, The Treasury Hour, on NBC radio. Formerly known as Millions For Defense, this Treasury Department show, part of the governments fundraising campaign for the countrys military operations, is needed now more than ever now that the US has officially entered WWII. Hollywoods biggest stars line up each week to appear on this variety show hosted by one of radios most popular comedians, Fred Allen. Speaking of big stars, tonights show will feature Marlene Dietrich, Fanny Brice, Mickey Rooney, and Judy Garland. Miss Garland will be singing a song written specifically for the war effort by the great Jerome Kern (a song Judy sang a week earlier on the Motion Picture Industry Community Chest Drive radio broadcast), Abe Lincoln Had Just One Country. - Chris Stevens
