On This Day Not all that interesting today 1801 French Astronomer Jean Louis Pons made his first comet discovery.. In the following 27 years he discovered a further 36 comets, more than any other person in history. Considering he had practically no education and began working at the observatory as a care taker, he did very well 1274 Robert the Bruce King of Scotland was born. (He reigned from 1306 until his death in 1329. One of Scotlands most famous and successful warriors he led Scotland to independence from England. One of his greatest victories was the Battle of Bannockburn despite being outnumbered by the English forces) 1833 Yagon an Aboriginal warrior died (He was a member of the Noongar tribe who lived in what is now Perth Australia. Wanted for robbery and murder he was shot and killed by William Kean. His head was cut off and handed in to collect the reward. his head was eventually sent to England where is was exhibited in a museum. it was later buried but was later exhumed and returned to his tribe)
