On Thursday, April 10, Station 2 and Ambulance 2-9 were dispatched for a report of a brush fire in Washington Twp. With the dry conditions, rough terrain and high winds, the fire consumed approximately 25 acres through the course of over 8 hours. There were 60-70 firefighters and e.m.s. personnel on scene to bring the fire under control. We could not have stopped the fire and maintained adequate fire protection of the area without the help of Laceyville Goodwill Fire Company, Triton Hose Co. Station 7, Swoyersville Volunteer Fire Department Southside 279 Volunteers, Springville Fire Company, F.W.M. Fire Company, Lake Carey Fire Company, Rush Fire Dept, Tunkhannock Community Ambulance Association, Wyalusing Fire Dept and the wildland firefighting crews from DCNRs Forestry unit. We would also like to thank the dispatchers of the Wyoming County Communications Center for a job well done. Last but not least, thank you to Dandy Mini Mart in Meshoppen for donating food and drinking water for the crews.
