On Thursday January 22, SBS Punjabi team invites you to listen to all our features an interviews and then join the discussion, via talkback. Following recent reports of family violence which have caused more deaths in the Indian Australian community, we continue our conversation with Jasvinder Sidhu (from Jagriti) and will have Healthy Relationships expert and family mediator Reeta Verma in our studio, who will talk about practical steps to prevent violence. The statistics are horrifying - one woman is killed in Australia every week, by an intimate partner; one in three Australian women has faced family violence at some point in her life; and while there are no statistics for the Australian Indian community, repeated headlines and news reports remind us, that the problem cant be ignored. Reeta Verma ji will look at many aspects of family violence and will tell us how we can help - as an individual, as a community or a parent/family member of a person suffering abuse. Reeta ji will answer your questions too, if you call via our talkback lines, after 9.30pm. Also tonight, well present a report on careless parents in Australia, who continue to leave their children locked up in cars; well present our weekly India Diary as well. You can hear SBS Punjabi program from 9-10 every weeknight, nationally in Australia, and anywhere in the world via web-streaming.
