On Tuesday 4/15, a group presented testimony before the House Democratic Policy Committee on The Need for Dyslexia Funding in Pennsylvania. Representatives Ed Neilson (who sponsored House Bill 198 which calls for early dyslexia identification and evidence-based intervention), Stephen Kinsey and Mike Sturla were among those present. Twenty members of the public testified, among them parents, advocates, professionals, and people living with dyslexia. Delaware Valley Friends School was mentioned throughout the session. Those speaking included DVFS alum parents Susan Raymond (James, 2006), Robin Pryor (Jasmine, 2011) and Mary Ellen Trent (Lisa Adams, 2012), and two current parents, Diane Reott and Tina DeLong. DVFS alum Khalil Munir (2001), spoke from his heart about how DVFS changed the trajectory of his life. And a current DVFS middle school student read a statement about how his needs werent met by his home school district and how much DVFS now helps him. It was a good afternoon for Pennsylvanians living with dyslexia.
