On Tuesday, Brownsville Mayor, Tony Martinez, filed an amicus - TopicsExpress

On Tuesday, Brownsville Mayor, Tony Martinez, filed an amicus “friend of the court” brief in federal court in Brownsville on my behalf supporting the recent executive actions taken by the President regarding the country’s broken immigration system. The actions taken by the President are Constitutionally sound and are an important stepforward. The executive action will focus the limited resources of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on removing felons, gang members, and other criminals. This is not the first time a President has taken action on immigration reform when Congress has failed to act. Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton have all used executive action to mitigate Congress’ failed attempts to fix or improve our countrys immigration system. This is not amnesty. Individuals eligible for relief must submit to a thorough background check, pay taxes, and meet a number of other strict requirements before receiving a temporary work permit. I invite all in South Texas to read about the amicus “friend of the court” brief here: goo.gl/s8FO8a
