On Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at approximately 9:35 a.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville was notified by the Todd County Sheriff’s Department of an aircraft that had crashed. The location was KY 181 (near Liberty Road) north of Elkton. The aircraft, a 1946 Aeronca model 7AC, was being piloted by Roger L. Pointer, 69 of Maxwell, IA. The plane had left Florida enroute to Iowa when it appears that it experienced mechanical difficulties. Mr. Pointer attempted to land on KY 181. The plane exited off the roadway and traveled into a field. Mr. Pointer and his passenger, Michael D. Callison, 52 of Des Moines, IA, were not injured. Trooper Craig Engler, Trooper Jim McArthur, and Todd County EMS responded to the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration will be continuing the investigation.
