On Tuesday, May 20, we learned that the U.S. -Israel Strategic Partnership Act has been withdrawn from the agenda of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by its Chairman, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ). The bill, co-sponsored by more than 60 senators from both sides of the aisle, would have enhanced cooperation between America and Israel in many important areas. Senator Menendez, celebrated at the recent AIPAC Conference in DC, and at the American Friends of Likud dinner in NYC, speaks of his strong ties to Israel and his clear understanding of the issues. However, when Senator Robert Corker (R-Tenn) insisted on adding an amendment to the bill which would have prevented President Obama from making any deals on Iran without Congressional approval, Menendez cancelled the committee vote. Politics took precedence over principle. Since President Obama was strongly opposed to any restrictions on his power to make decisions on the Iran nuclear program, Menendez seemingly had no choice but to bury the bill. Otherwise, Democrats, in this mid-term election year, would have had to choose between supporting the president or supporting Israel. That uncomfortable choice is no longer going to trouble them. Tragically, Iran, always willing to talk and appear agreeable, is moving full speed ahead with its nuclear program. Irans Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave a speech last week where he said, These talks need to continue but all must know that despite continuation of the talks, activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of nuclear research and development wont be halted at all...None of the countrys nuclear achievements can be stopped, and no one has the right to bargain over it. With such a clear statement of true purpose by the Iranians, Congress must have the final say on any commitments made by President Obama. ACTION: Call or write to your Senators - 202-224-3121 - Ask them to re-activate the U.S. -Israel Strategic Partnership Act with the inclusion of the Corker amendment demanding Congressional oversight of any deals with Iran. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kudos to the Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv basketball team on its win of the Euroleague championship on Sunday, May 18. We read that 10,000 Israelis traveled to Milan to cheer their team on, and happily, they were rewarded for their loyalty. Unfortunately, the anti-Semitic slander that spewed forth following the win is a cautionary tale of the hatred of Jews that still exists in Spain, and throughout Europe. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As the anti-BDS battle continues, with more exposures of the evil of the Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions programs of Israels enemies, we learn that Israel will be enjoying economic cooperation with China, a huge market that opens endless possibilities. Let Europe and the Israel bashers bask in their hatred. It will only boomerang against them. Curiously, we read recently that George Soros, a billionaire notorious for his funding of leftist causes, has bought $24.3 million worth of shares in Soda Stream. This is the company that operates out of Maale Adumim, just minutes north of the Jerusalem municipality, but in the forbidden west bank. It seems clear that investing in the occupied territories, in an area that is an obstacle to peace, is acceptable to Soros as long as he smells the money. What a skunk! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yom Yerushalayim - the day celebrating the re-unification of Jerusalem in 1967, will be celebrated this Tuesday, May 28. The city of Ariel, one we visit on almost every AFSI Chizuk mission to Israel, has prepared a flash-mob video especially for the occasion. Click on below and enjoy every minute of it. https://youtube/watch?v=QjUfJXahsxk
