On Tuesday evening we were privileged to have one of the greatest ever players to grace a rugby field, at Nelson RFC. An evening billed as Croeso Campo used to showcase the talent within Nelson RFC and to expose us to the local and rugby communities. With every player from U7s through to seniors and two girls teams on the field it truly was a sight to behold and one that is just rewards for all the effort and hard work put in by coaches, parents and players alike. Alongside David Campese were union and league internationals Andrew Coombs and Paul Emanuelli, representatives from the Dragons, Caerphilly sport and Heads of Rugby for the local comprehensive schools. We were also joined by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Mr Ian Johnston who on the back of a lot of hard work by the youth section generously awarded the club a grant of £2500 for the development of 16 - 19 year olds. A more humbling and emotional moment of the night was when Campo presented young Cameron Hudd with tickets for this weeks forthcoming international against Australia on behalf of the club. Cameron has been wheelchair bound since a severe illness as a baby. Along with the tickets he was also presented with a David Campese signed picture from Matthew Jones at The Events Room, a special touch for a special kid. Many thanks to everyone involved and to everyone that makes Nelson RFC a great place to be. All in all Croeso Campo was a great success and a pleasure to be a part of, a night described by club chairman Paul Davies as A GOOD NIGHT TO BE A UNICORN #unicornrevolution PROFI YN IAWN!!
