On Tuesday night before I left for Kabale the following morning, I met a widow in a taxi that touched my heart and I felt I needed to do something. She had been receiving calls from a certain Police officer who was threatening to arrest her for a crime she did not commit but because she doesnt understand the law. The poor lady kepting saying, Afande mukama wange, mpamu obudde nonye yo kyensobola nkuwe. So i got interested and asked her what the issue was. she narrated the story while crying as all the passengers listened. This lady vends small articles like razor blades, pens, envelops...(you know those things that cant even total to 10 dollars in total capital) So the officer kept calling and threatening her while we were in the taxi. The next time he called, I asked the woman so I could talk to him. I told the officer am the son of this woman and wish to know what the crime is and to get his details. I talked to him and we fixed to meet on Tuesday morning. The lady did not even have transport to go back home she was just crying. Good enough I was solid, so I managed to help and she got home. In the morning before heading to Kabale, I went to Police with this widow and after a hot conversation, I realized there was not a single crime she had committed and her name was not even appearing anywhere on the witness statements. The officer was simply looking for a way to get money. I asked to see some other people who had been arrested over the same crime and they were released and told to report later. They were two women who had been kept in the coolers for two days and one of them had a kid. When I saw the innocent kid breast feeding, oblivious of what was going on, my heart bled. anyhow...it ended well... I was very happy to have seen justice for these poor woman. My appeal to you all young people is that we should get concerned about whats happening around us. Sometimes you can be of help to someone. People have so many problems and sometimes you are in a very good position to help.it may not be money but it could be a contact, it could be a referral, it could be a call... Dont just look on. Always take care of others...its the reason we live together. To be each others keeper. God take care of you my dear friends.
