On Wednesday, LR took in a beautiful bonded pair of 11-year-old Labradors. Say hello to Tawny (female, chocolate) and Tanner (male, yellow). Our wonderful volunteer received a desperate call from the shelter, stating that no other rescue was willing to take a bonded pair of senior labs. Our volunteer jumped into action and went to evaluate this adorable pair. Needless to say, they passed with flying colors, with tails wagging and slobbery kisses!! The back story is a sad one indeed. Tawny and Tanner were purchased from a breeder as puppies. The owners had them a few years and then turned them in to a no-kill shelter in Riverside when they moved. They were adopted to a new family, and then after a few years that adopter brought them back to the very same shelter at age 8 because they were moving!! Low and behold the original family who got them as puppies happened to see them and adopted them again at age 8. Now, here we are, 3 years later, and the original family is moving AGAIN and brought them this time to the county shelter, a shelter where they did not stand much of a chance of survival. What a roller coaster ride for these two dogs. It’s no wonder they are bonded, the only thing consistent in their lives is each other. Their story is truly heartbreaking. We will never begin to understand how a family can just leave their pet(s) behind when there are alternatives to the shelter. We can tell you that they are super sweet dogs. The employee at the shelter knows them well as she was the person who adopted them to the people at the no-kill shelter where she used to work. When the dogs appeared at the shelter last week she was just devastated. She is now jumping for joy that they were rescued, thanks to Labrador Rescuers!! We need your help Facebook followers!!! This bonded pair needs a foster or forever home ASAP!! They do not belong in boarding and deserve a warm bed to lay on and lots love.
