On Wednesday at Dads visitation one of the older home builders - TopicsExpress

On Wednesday at Dads visitation one of the older home builders came up to me and in his typical indifferent demeanor said, so Ed, what are you gonna do with all that money? Not, Youre dad was a good man, or Im sorry about your loss. Ive known this guy since I first started doing interior carpentry back in 1973 and I trimmed quite a few of his houses. Hes always been shallow....... A lot of people around this town (Copperas Cove), have always thought mom and dad were wealthy and had they been selfish greedy people they would have been worth a great deal, but they gave so much money to so money people that thats not how it played out...ANYWAYS, when this man said that, I came incredibly close to saying, WELL.(insert mans name), I suppose I would have a shit load of money to think about doing something with if my parents had not helped so many other, unlike you. But I did not.. .....there was a time period when a local scumbag/shyster/ builder(who by the way built pathetic homes) and i know this because i also trimmed out a ton of his houses as well and they were pieces of shit, and who shall remain anonymous(at least for the time being), borrowed millions from a local bank, and who in their own greed kept loaning him all that money until the bank went bankrupt..... ....... MY DAD, AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS(including the gentlemen at Dads visitation) were also borrowing from this bank and many of them either declared bankruptcy and/or began putting their cash in off shore accounts so as to lessen their loss, or not even have a loss, while my parents, BILL AND MARY HATTAWAY, paid back every single penny they borrowed because that was the agreement my dad made when he borrowed the money, you know its called, DOING THE RIGHT THING. It took mom and dad close to 20 years to pay everything off and after interest it came to almost $900,000.00...Yes you read that right, almost one million dollars. Yes you heard me, they paid it off completely...dad took all these side jobs in the five state area just to bet by, where he and about 4 guys did all the work at army and air force bases just to keep food on the table...and he and mom found a way to keep paying the bank off ........ AND it makes me incredibly proud to have know that... ...... I can honestly tell you that I am far happier not getting anything financial as a result of my parents being honest and fair and especially the kind of people who kept their word.....I am getting my dads bathrobe, the maroon one that mom gave him for xmas some years ago and the one he wore constantly up until it became two heavy and cumbersome for him to endure the last 3 weeks of his life...I am getting his wallet....I am also taking some military dog tags, an old fashion money clip so I can keep my $ 5 in it, his eyeglasses, handkerchiefs and comb, the shaving mug with shaving soap and razor that I gave him for xmas about 18 years ago.....I might look for some more things, I am not sure... ......it does my heart good that my sister and I are interested in things of great emotional value...we are this way because we were raised by WILLIMAM EDWARD HATTAWAY and MARY BLACK HATTAWAY....that is worth far more than a stack of cash...
