On Wednesday morning, I read a few chapters in the book of Matthew - TopicsExpress

On Wednesday morning, I read a few chapters in the book of Matthew but a scripture stuck with me throughout the day, “whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.” Matthew 20:26. I thought about it the whole day, I even discussed it with a friend. I thought about all the things you taught me on service; many of your teachings boarder on service, and in fact service is actually the missing link in this generation. The following day Thursday I quit thinking and talking and decided to put it into action. After all the scripture is not just to be quoted, it’s to be lived. I dressed up (corporately), printed my CV and walked into a secondary school requesting to see the Principal. I was directed to her office. She offered me a seat and I began, “my name is Chukwuma Eziashi, I’m a final year student of Computer Engineering in University of Benin and since the ASUU strike is still on, I want to volunteer to teach in your school for free pending when the strike is called off.” The woman couldn’t hide the smile on her face but she managed to ask me, “This school is not a private school, it is owned by the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, if it were private, I would have gone to the owner to ask that you be paid, are you sure you can work without pay? I said “Yes Ma”. Then she continued, “I have never seen this kind of thing before that a young man will come and offer to work for free when every young person is always asking about how much they will be paid”. She called the teacher in charge of Computer Studies and told him he should please come and see what she was seeing. To cut a long story short, I was assigned to take JSS2 Computer Studies, I was given the scheme of work and the textbook and I will resume Monday next week. I have four periods in a week on Mondays and Tuesdays and I intend to give it my best short. I still have the remaining week to devote to my project work. Sir after my summary on THE SERVICE REVOLUTION during the mentorship program, these were my action steps: 1. I must renew my commitment to genuine and selfless service. 2. I may not find great opportunities to serve because they seldom come, but small ones abound daily and so I must capitalize on them. 3. My service must be rendered with an excellent attitude to the satisfaction of the beneficiary. 4. I must be strategic in rendering service, not rendering it haphazardly. 5. I must exercise restraint before the one I serve. Proverbs 23:1-2 puts it like this, “When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you; and put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite.” I have renewed my commitment to these decisions and despite the fact I’m working without pay, I will package myself to work like Esther did, and I will also render excellent service to the satisfaction of my employer. Once again, thank you for setting me on the path to greatness. My story will never be complete without you, GOD BLESS YOU SIR. Best regards, Chuma. -- Chukwuma J.
