On Wisconsin: I was reminded of this by an alert that there is a conversation about making things out of human skin in one of my groups. One of Wisconsins finest - Ed Gein - used to make lampshades of human skin. It is interesting to note that Wisconsin absolutely cultivates a culture of cruelty. They not only sanction, but support legal dogfighting against wildlife, although it can be penned or caged. They reimburse dog owners $2500 per injured dog. The State Sandwich is The Cannibal, and they proudly claim not only Ed Gein, but Jeffrey Dahmer. There probably are others who werent / havent been caught. Wisconsins North Woods hold many secrets. They have long been a favorite hideaway area for gangsters from Chicago and other Midwest cities. I remember, as a young child, sitting at the old Open Kitchen with my grandparents after church one Sunday and seeing a big black car with black windows and men in black suits. My grandparents immediately began having a serious hushed conversation in Swedish. When I asked, my grandmothers comment was her old standby, Dont trouble trouble until trouble troubles you. There was a tenseness after that. My grandfather seemed in more of a hurry than usual to get back out to the farm. Youll still see the occasional black windowed car pass through Spooner on 53/63 heading north.
