On a Friday in Kumasi some #316 years ago (1697) was gathered at the epicentre of the town, the traditional potentates of the pupating Ashanti Kingdom. In their midst stood a fiery and powerful human liason between the living and spiritual worlds; a figure of uncanny powers of incantation and seismic abilities of conjuring. This was the legendary Ghanaian fetish priest - Komfo Anokye. In a sizzling fit of chanting, this Prince of the underworld commanded from the sky, the Golden Stool in your picture, (Sikagua Kofi) and caused the emergence of the sword! These objects would come to seal and symbolize Ashanti unification and constitute the most treasured heirloom of the Ashanti Kingdom for centuries. The stool dangled from its celestial home to kiss the laps of the great Ashanti King, Osei Tutu I on that day! The sword was instantly sheathed in the earth of the durbar grounds with the command its removal would occasion the split of the Kingdom! To date, both #stool and #sword survive intact in #Kumasi!
