On a completely unrelated note to my previous post, a tv/film - TopicsExpress

On a completely unrelated note to my previous post, a tv/film review roundup: Divergent (2014) is a decent film, very much like The Hunger Games but I found the premise more interesting. Non-Stop (2014) was surprisingly enjoyable - not great but much better than the usual Liam Neeson action hero nonsense. The Expendables 3 (2014) is what youd expect. Stallone only writes cheese - I liked Rocky VI but apart from that, hes barely better than Michael Bay. Margin Call (2011) is excellent, the best movie on the 2007 financial crisis. Nuanced, sympathetic without condoning, with great characters and acting. Locke (2013) is a good movie, one of Tom Hardys best performances in a very limited set. Enemy (2013) was an interesting movie - I always like mind-benders that leave room for interpretation. End of Watch (2012) is a worthy successor to Training Day, and thats saying a lot. Black Mirror (2011, 2013 series) is a great collection of thought-provoking short stories. Episodes are self-contained so its a great one to pick up and put down at random. Hannibal (2013, 2014 series) continues with a second season to present the best ever portrayal of an ultimate psychopath... hard to see where they can go from here though Penny Dreadful (2014 series) is gothic horror done right - back to the good old days when Vampires were twisted monsters not sparkly boyfriends, werewolves were berserker killers, and electricity was a freaky new magic... its what The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen should have been.
