On a recent visit to the Western Front, following in the footsteps - TopicsExpress

On a recent visit to the Western Front, following in the footsteps of the 2nd Bn of the regiment from the Battle of Le Cateau to the advance to the Marne, we visited the CWGC cemetery at Honnechy. There we laid a wreath on the grave of L/Cpl John Boland who was killed in the initial battle fought by the Dubs. The 2nd Bn defended Haucourt and were among the last of the troops of the 4th Division to withdraw, as there was little or no communication from 10th Bde HQ. The subsequent retreat was not an orderly one, as elements of many Bns became separated from their parent units.
