On average it takes service men and women 13 years, after leaving the service, to seek help for mental health problems. Most then have to rely on charities. We need to find a better way - a way that helps people ask for help quicker, that provides more and better access to help, and that acknowledges the true cost of mental health problems to those struggling with them and those trying to support them - and a Government and Ministry of Defence that provides funding and support appropriate to the true cost of this suffering.
