On behalf of President Obama and the American people, it is my sincere pleasure to wish everyone Eid Mubarak. For Muslims in Afghanistan, the United States, and around the world, Eid is a time of celebration, reflection, and the cultivation of a renewed spirit of compassion for each other. At the Iftar he hosted at the White House last week, President Obama said, “For all of us, whatever our faith, Ramadan is a reminder of just how much we share. The values of peace and charity, the importance of family and community -- these are universal values. The command to love one another, to uphold justice, and to care for the least among us -- these are common threads in our faith traditions.” As Ambassador of the United States to Afghanistan, I reaffirm my country’s commitment to support the people of Afghanistan in friendship as they work toward a peaceful and prosperous future. Let us celebrate Eid ul-fitr again together and for many more years to come. I wish all of you, your families and the Afghan people, best wishes for a blessed holiday. Eid Mubarak (Dari)! Akhtar Mo Mubarak Sha (Pashto)!
