On behalf of my family, I would like to extend best wishes to all those celebrating Passover in Canada and around the world. Passover commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from enslavement in ancient Egypt, the strength of the Jewish people and the triumph of good over evil. Tonight, families and friends will gather across the country at their seder tables to share the story of the exodus. It is a time to reflect on the many blessings we enjoy here in Canada and to remember those around the world who are still struggling to break free from the bonds of tyranny. When I visited Israel in January, I was reminded of the remarkable heights that can be achieved by a country anchored in the ideals of freedom, democracy and the rule of law. Our Government will continue to staunchly defend and promote freedom around the world. Laureen and I wish the Jewish community a Chag Pesach kasher v’sameach.
