On behalf of my family, we would like to thank all those who offered their condolences for the passing of my Dad. Your kind and loving thoughts in our time of sorrow are greatly appreciated by all of us. I have attached my eulogy to my dad. A devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a marine war hero, a fire dept lieutenant and a very special man The Reverend Father Tom Eagan, 0ur family and Friends, Brother Members of the fire Department, On behalf of my mother, my brothers, my sister, and sister in law, his grand children, cousins , nieces and nephews, I want to express what we feel to those who mourn with us today, in this Cathedral, and in the hearts of many. We loved him as a Husband, a father, a grandfather, an Uncle, a cousin, a Fire Department Lieutenant , A Marine Corp Sergeant, and a best friend.... He was an inspiration... to all of us, He gave us strength in time of trouble,.. wisdom in time of uncertainty,.. and sharing in time of happiness. He will always be ...by our side... Love is not an easy feeling to put into words. Nor is loyalty, or trust, or joy. But he was all of these. He loved life completely and he lived it... unselfishly..... putting his family first in each and every part of it. His family was his life, and love was his lesson with compassion being the gift he gave us. Many years back, when I was very young, my Father told me about his own fathers passing, in which he expressed, how he missed his father every day of his life. At that young age I thought he was going to teach me how to miss someone, rather he taught me how to love someone. What it really all adds up to is love -- not love as it is described in greeting cards, but the kind of love that is affection and respect ......... and loyalty ,encouragement, and support. Our awareness of this, from my Dad.. was deep source of strength, and because real love is something unselfish and involves sacrifice and giving, we always felt him with us...and always will. DAD ,... Your bravery and sacrifices saved many lives...in other countries... in times of war,.... and your unselfish giving and courage in fighting fires and saving lives here at home, .....will live in the hearts of many ..... forever and for the kindness and love you gave us, from a man who knew real love, ....we THANK YOU Dad, You’ve kept your promise. Now, it’s time for you to rest in peace. From your Doris, your Steve, your Kevin, your Jayne, your Robbie and Shelley , and from your Mackenzie and Madison, Thank you for loving us all, only the way... that YOU could.
