On hearing about Rampheles quits on politics this is how I responded on some one elses status. I guess we never know with certainty where our contribution would matter most until we are involved. I admire her courage to be involved even if it be experimentally. I admire her courage and the matured decision to step down after discovering that politics may not be the best avenue for making a meaningful contribution she probably still want to make. Our task is always to keep our attempts under way, trying new ways to be most productive, remaining on them as long as profitable, but also abandoning them and setting off in a different when the former is exhausted or not yielding. We must always desire to be involved in ways that heighten our sensitivity and responsiveness to the plight of the voiceless and those that are increasingly becoming without or with too few alternatives in our society. If this would civil society for Ramphele the challenge each one of us should pose on themselves what will it be for me. We cannot and we shouldnt in the first place all be politicians. In my view we need to dispel the myth that most if not all of our national problems or public issues require a political solution. In this light we should all celebrate when one of leading intellectual make a swift turn as did Ramphele. I wish her all the best.
