On last nights vote: When I read through this bill, I saw that it included a number of the things I care about, and a number of the things many of my constituents have written me about. This bill includes provisions to help our economy grow, allow our farmers and ranchers to succeed, protect our second amendment rights, and ensure our veterans can get the care they deserve, among other things. My newsletter (1.usa.gov/1uwqipi) includes a more detailed list. Perhaps most importantly, the bill puts us on much stronger footing to challenge the President’s executive action on immigration. I cannot support his choice to ignore the will of the American people and act outside of the Constitution. He and I share the goal of reforming our broken immigration system, but I won’t support him doing so in a process that sidesteps Congress. The funding bill I voted for yesterday did not include any funding for the Department of Homeland Security past February. This means that we will have the opportunity several months from now, with a new Senate, to send a clear message from all of Congress that executive action which undermines the rule of law will not be tolerated.
