On left, I just shot this photo of Dick Smiths original Frankenstein Monster headpiece, actually used in the photo shoot with Boris Karloff on right. Later, when he decided to display it in his studio, he added the eyes and ears. For the shoot, the models real ears were used, and neck blended into his own neck. As I remember, Dick was only given about 72 hours to come up with this headpiece for the shoot. He began the hair work, and ran out of black hair, so in the front, the hair is dark brown. Since the photo was originally shot in black & white for the Nov 3rd 1962 issue of The Saturday Evening Post, the color did not matter. But later, I did this colorized version for Dick, based on how he painted the head. You may notice there are some fine cracks in the head, due to age. As soon as Dick gave it to me, we foam filled it, otherwise it may never have lasted. It is one of the most prized items I have, but very delicate, which is why we have not brought it to film conventions. Due to some strange requests, I feel I should make it clear, I have no desire to sell any items Dick Smith gave me. He was a great friend, I greatly treasure these pieces, and his generosity, which is why I am sharing them with you in these photos. - Cortlandt Hull
