On many Online sites, I sometimes have gotten involved in discussions about various subjects with people I do not actually know .... and I am NOT talking about my Facebook friends .... all of whom I like --- even if I do not always agree with them, and even if I have not met all of them in person --- because I have CHOSEN them as my friends. I am slowly trying to withdraw from the tendency, as much as possible, to get pulled into participation in Online discussions with total strangers because, first, they constantly try to pigeon-hole my beliefs by taking a particular word or phrase out of context and, second, just as I would not presume to debate rocket science with an astro-physicist or rocket engineer (since I know nothing about rocket science), neither do I have any desire to waste my time debating things I DO know a good deal about with individuals who demonstrate that they cannot write a coherent sentence in their own language or who have never even heard of the Sassanid Empire. I dont like rigid ideas that attempt to put the human mind in an intellectual straitjacket and restrict free inquiry. I dont belong to any political parties or organized religions because I have an inherit distrust of institutions, and a great awareness of their capacity for eventual collective corruption. I dont trust centralized power .... despite any claims of benevolence and good intentions the power in question may make for itself. Just because a particular government is generous with taxpayers money, in order to buy support for itself, does not mean that it is honest or altruistic. All governments eventually fail. Every world empire that has ever existed has eventually collapsed as an empire ....... sometimes rising again in a different form. I believe in the maximum amount of individual liberty that is reasonably possible under law without creating anarchy .... and I believe that power should be DE-centralized as much as reasonably possible without creating anarchy. Of course, everything boils down to the question of what IS reasonable. And there will never be universal agreement on that. I believe in examining each issue on the terms of what I can determine to be the objective facts about that particular issue .... regardless of where they lead. Occasionally, I find myself in error. Im human. I just wish some of the people I encounter in the great public sphere would stop assuming they can read my mind or predict what I will think about every issue, simply because of the questions I raise or how I word a phrase.
