On my day off.....as I sit and watch a 4 point chase the does around, my mind wanders.......Heres a hopefully objective observation about our current healthcare situation. My wife comes home every night and informs me about her medical profession, and the overwhelming changes that face the medical community as a whole. Coding changes that would typically cover a broken arm, now have a slew of reasons for a broken arm, if it was on a bus, with an animal, in a store, etc., etc., etc. So coding an illness or an injury goes from a few to many. The paper files that were safe in the Doctors office, are now floating around on the internet, on software that Doctors were forced to buy, by the govt., at a HUGELY inflated price!! GE had a software product that Doctors had to buy, (or get fined), that has failed miserably, and cost Doctors hundreds of thousands of dollars per individual practice! That is what is happening to private practices. Doctors are making less than they were 30 years ago. If compliance is not immediate, threats from the govt. (with fines included), are rampant. Many seasoned Doctors, (the ones who can recognize what it takes to fix your medical problems), are tired of the heavy hand of govt. and are retiring. They are afraid to speak out for fear of being a target. Isnt it sad that 2000 pages of legislation were written by God only knows who, read by no one, and shoved down our throat without a chaser. Its kind of like a bunch of children were given control of making the city on the hill safe from raiding by rabid intruders. Should we be surprised when we find the fort is made out of laundry baskets, blankets, and stocked with bubble gum, water blaster pistols, and more bubble gum?
