On my flight back to Melbourne today, I was seated next to a Chinese woman who had quite a strong accent and was trying to place her luggage in the overhead locker... She turned around to the cabin manager and asked politely if he could help her put it up as she was quite short. To my utter disbelief, he turned to this woman and said: Um, no... you need to put it up, Im not going to do it all for you... You can help me As he said this to this poor woman, he turned to a few of the passengers rolling his eyes, as if her asking for help was idiotic... Then he picked up her bag and jammed it so fiercely into the overhead before rolling his eyes again... He then proceeded to treat every other passenger ever so politely, whilst continuing to treat this Chinese woman poorly... All I have to say is that not only was I so extremely ashamed.. but as a young Australian, it is just so embarrassing to have foreign tourists, especially ones that help fund our beautiful country, be treated like dirt by older and discriminatory generations... Racism seems to be an acceptable form of communication, even within professional workplaces, and the next time I see this sort of racist treatment, I will stand up and walk off the plane... I hope this discriminatory behaviour dies out with the older generations... God help us. Pick up your game Qantas.
