On my last day in Maine, I took the canoe and went out to the middle of the pond...I was sitting there in the silence and two loons popped up right next to me. Suddenly they started to make the loudest, most frantic sounds. And they were calling across many ponds, to other loons. I thought I was bothering them, and I thought that was why they were calling so wildly, but it turns out That an eagle was flying over us and they knew it, even under the water !! They were warning all the loons in the area. I was amazed at the smartness and awareness of their Surroundings. I really respect and love animals......
