On my mind..Parenting .While walking my laps at the Fremont Rec Center this morning, I noticed a young couple, probably early 30s, and their 2 little boys, probably 5 and 7. From my perspective they seemed to emulate everything right in parenting, even though I have never been fortunate enough to have been one. The father was pitching to his boy, mom was playing first base, and the youngest boy was doing his best shagging. Having fallen in love with a baseball as a young boy, the scene reminded me somewhat of that tender time. Like most men, though, at that long ago time, DAD was much tougher than this 2014 one. This father and mother pair were so kind, so patient, so caring. From my observation post on the upstairs oval track, I could see a couple totally committed to their kids. The foursome captured my interest to such an extent that after my laps, i walked down and visited them. Unlike some grownups, they did not show suspician at this older stranger approaching their space. We ended up having a comfortable short discussion all related to the wonderful topic of baseball. I never asked them who they were..it was not important. Neither did they of me......it was just a poignant ten minutes which seem to have the feel of The field of DREAms within it. From it, I came away with wanting to tell all of my Facebook friends occupied now with the joys of children.. I say, Congratulations, all of you who are, like this couple today, totally committed to your children. Congratulations for realizing that your life IS about them now, not about YOU! It has to be a mighty tough task, but you are blessed by these kids, and you truly and actively realize it! Keep loving them every day, for our world certainly NEEDS YOU!
