On my mind this morning. With warmer weather, the number of tourists visiting historic Holy Trinity Lutheran Church grows. Elementary school groups love to make chalk etchings from the gravestones in our Memorial Garden. Senior citizens revel in the stained glass windows (trying to spot the Tiffany window) and the colonial facade of our pipe organ. Among these tourists are those tracing their genealogy. I met such a family yesterday. They pored through the records of the congregation. When I checked in with them, there was a spark of joy in their eyes. They had located their ancestors. One family said, I have found the fifth generation of my grandparents. Her joy was found in making a connection with a larger and longer story. Our own Holy Trinity member, Ron Fink, discovered that one of the first baptisms of the church, on May 4, 1730, was his ancestor. In a society that is so mobile; where families are separated by states and countries; when so much of what we have is disposable; and there is no such thing as a family home, finding a connection to something larger and longer is a gift that brings joy. Much larger than any of us can imagine is another connection. We are part of Gods story of salvation. This story runs from the beginning of this natural order we call earth to the end of time. God, as author, has written us into that story. The end of the story--we are saved. Today, imagine this, as God sits around the divine banquet table, enjoying a fantastic meal with the heavenly host, God is telling family stories with tears of love in those omnipotent eyes. YOU are the source of that joy, for the stories are about YOU. Blessings. Pastor Tim @timmentzer
