On my return from Tagaytay, I stopped in at the new KFC restaurant across from the Tikling Bridge and had my regular mushroom soup minus any decipherable mushrooms. However, the big feature was the presence of a big Santa Claus, making his three hour visit. Surprised that he was as big as he was, I learned that he was a transplanted Romanian who had spent time in Ohio, and now is hooked up with a Filipino. On the spot, I was offered a job as a Santa Claus, but had to decline because of my teaching responsibilities. It seems that businesses cant find really credible Santa Clauses in the Philippines, because they are either too short, too skinny or too dark. Rarely do I feel undersized in the Philippines, but next to this man, I was! I shared my misfortune about the mushroomless soup, and the manager Marie apologized and gave me a free batch to take home, loaded with mushrooms. Ah, the Filipino hospitality always gets me!
