On my trip to South Africa, I saw that the labour movement in the country is incredibly strong. Here is the 12 stories high office of Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU). Frankly, their trade union office was more impressive than our chambers of commerce. The workers I met at there were also members of the South African Communist Party. I introduced my own affiliation to APTUF and CMKP. They were overjoyed and asked me to come again to meet with their trade union and party leaders. In Pakistan we look down on trade unions but the fact is that only a strong trade union movement can lead to a strong democratic traditions because real democracy begins from the workplace.
