On of my blogging colleagues shared this with me. It is worth repeating. Heres a tip. Be prepared mentally for how to respond to strangers on your doorstep. I had something happen with a slip of my tongue that had me worried. A salesman came to my door. We live well out in the country so this doesnt happen very often. He wanted to talk with me and my husband together about insurance or some such thing. I let it slip that my husband is out of town! I was jut trying to get rid of him. Dumb dumb dumb. As soon as it came out of my mouth I cringed inwardly. That night I was worried. We usually lock our dogs in a kennel for the night but I told my son to leave the dogs on the front porch for the night. Of course he wondered why, I tried not to let it show but I think he knew I was scared and so then I had him worried now too. Im never afraid when my husband is gone, he travels for work a lot. But that night I slept with my weapon on my night stand. And mentally kicked myself. Anyway all this to say, prepare what you might need to say to a stranger at your door BEFORE they are standing there. I should have never told this strange man that my husband would not be home. NEVER. We all say the wrong thing from time to time so it is good to be reminded that sometimes we need to zip it. This applies to the single ladies out there too. There is no reason to let it be known that you are solo.
