On one occasion he recounted how, when he was young, he visited Sister M. E. Barber quite often. Miss Barber was a sister of much spiritual depth, and Brother Nee received from her a basic, fundamental supply of life. He testified to me that when he waited for Miss Barber in her living room, he had the sense of the Lords presence even before she came into the room. This was the expression of the divine life in her. There was no need for this sister to be outwardly active or to behave in a lively way, for she had the genuine life of Christ.
